Walmart and Target Trip 8/22

Well, there's only a week left before Lorelai starts school.  I am getting a little bit nervous for me and her.  I am praying that Lorelai adjusts to going to school and I adjust to not having my little girl at home.  As the 29th gets closer, I see myself looking at Lorelai and going when did she get so big?  So because school starts in a week, I needed to run to Walmart to grab a few things and I had to go to Target to buy some diapers.  Target had a Huggies store coupon that I could stack with a manufacturer coupon otherwise I don't normally buy diapers at Target.  So here's what I got at Target:
Not too big a haul but.....still saved a bunch.

Here's the break down:
4 pks of Cascade Dishwasher tablets .97ea
used 4 1.00/1 from PG 7/31
4 pks of Tide Liquid Detergent .97ea
used 4 1.00/1 from PG 7/31
Huggies Slip On Diapers
used 3.00/1 from 8/14 SS
and 2.00/1 from Target.com

Total: $4.75 + taxes
Total Retail: $17.75
Total Savings: $13.00 or 73%

I know that this isn't the greatest number wise but I did get the Cascade and the Tide for free plus I got a pack of diapers for $4.75.

Here's what I bought at Walmart:

Ok this isn't all I bought but the rest was school stuff for Lorelai that I didn't have coupons for.  I had also bought two types of pencil boxes and a Bible.  But the big savings was with the Purell.  These are on sale at Office Depot for 50 cents each.  Well I did not want to try and find the nearest Office Depot so I thought I would just price match at Walmart.  Of course I forgot to bring the ad but Walmart did just change their price matching policy.  You now do not need to bring in the store ad.  So I thought that I would give it a try.  The cashier was actually very nice about the whole thing and allowed me to get the Purell for .50 cents each.  I then had 2 coupons for 1.00/3.  So I ended up paying 1.00 for 6 Purells.  That's .17 cents each!  These normally go for $1.59 at Office Depot.  So its a 90 % savings.
I guess the lesson learned on these two shopping trips is that even if you are not buying a lot of stuff never pay full price.  I may have only saved $34.54 but at least I wasn't giving it to the stores.  :)
Happy Shopping everyone.

Also, while I was in Target I noticed 10 ct Kleenex to go packs marked down for .33 ea.  (They do have Cars characters on them.)  Also coupons.com has a coupon for .40/3.  This would make it only .20 cents a pack.  Don't really know if this is a stock up price but it seems cheap to me.

8/18 2011 Walgreens Trip

Sorry to everyone who actually reads my blog.  I know I have not been faithful about putting up posts of my couponing adventures and my recipes.  I have been so crazy busy the last couple of weeks that when I finally do sit down, I really don't feel like typing.  I am hoping that once Lorelai starts school (less than 2 weeks now), I will have more time to blog.  Well, for those of you who are interested I went to Walgreens today to shop my weekly coupon deals.  Of course I always go in with a plan and when I get there it never goes the way I plan.  They usually don't have something I need to get the register rewards that I need to purchase my next set of items.  But like I said in my last Walgreens post, I am learning as I go.  Hopefully in a few months I will have this down pat.  (Probably not but I can be hopeful).  Ok so this is what I bought this time:
4 Scope Outlast 25.4 oz
2 Hefty 17ct freezer storage bags
2 Hefty 22ct freezer storage bags
2 Expo Dry Erase Marker 6ct
5 Royal Gelatin (various flavors)
2 Revlon Nail Polish
2 Reach Total Care Toothbrushes
6 Trident 18ct gum (various flavors)
1 Penway 70 pgs notebook
Total Retail: 81.75
Paid: 8.45 + 3.25 taxes = 11.70.
Savings: 70.05 or 86%.
I didn't do the breakdown on how I did this because there were a few hiccups in the transaction process and I think that I probably should have paid less than what I did.  The reason that I divided the sales tax out is because sales tax is different for everyone.  We in Nevada pay an outrageous 8.1% (though we don't pay state income tax) but I know in Connecticut the sales tax is only 6%.  So everyone will have a different total OOP (out of pocket) amount.  When I got home, of course I figured out how I could have spent less to get even more.  If only I could do this in the store right.  Ok for those of you who are interested and want to attempt this at Walgreens, here is a break down that will get you almost the same stuff I bought plus a little more.

Like I said above, I am still working all the kinks out on working the system at Walgreens.  My previous problems were because I didn't fully understand the coupon policy at the store.  Always look up the store coupon policy.  This will help make using coupons smoother (though I am still hitting bumps in the road.)
Here are some things to keep in mind about Walgreens:
  • Register Rewards counts as manufacturer coupons.
  • You can not have more items than you have manufacturer coupons. .ie If you have 5 items that you are purchasing and you have 5 coupons from the newspaper, you will not be able to use RR.  You will need to buy a filler item (it doesn't matter what it is).  The RR counts as a 6th manufacturer coupon and you therefore have to have 6 items to purchase.
  • You can not use RR to purchase something that is less than the RR. ie.  In the last transaction that I had, I needed to add the notebooks (or any other filler items) to make the total price greater than $3 RR.  Walgreens does not allow you to have credit.
  • You can not use RR to purchase the same items to get more RR.  ie. In the post I mentioned that you need to use the RR from the Scope to purchase the items and to keep the RR from the Reach items.  This is because if you use the Scope RR to pay for the next few items (includes Scope), you will not get more RR.  The register will know that you have already reached your limit of 1 RR per customer.  So make sure that when you are planning trips to not buy the same items one after another if you want to get RR for both.
I hope this helps a little more.  Feel free to email me or comment if you have any questions.

Catching Up

Well, its been over a week since I have posted anything on the blog.  I have been super busy with running the kids around with appointments and just everyday life.  There really hasn't been to much excitement since I last posted.  My computer broke on friday and so I was running around like a mad woman trying to find someone that would fix my computer and not charge me an arm and a leg to fix it. I also had to get some shopping done which didn't happen since I was trying to fix my computer.  That was not a fun day, but alas God was with me and kept me and the girl safe as I drove around Las Vegas like a crazy person.  God is so good to me because not only did he keep me safe but he answered my prayer because my computer was fixed by Sunday afternoon (I know that the prayer for quick return of my computer may seem superficial but I since I am a mystery shopper, I depend on my computer to make money.)  The weekend was busy since I had to do my grocery shopping on Saturday instead of Friday and I cooked all day Saturday for the "Cook one day and eat for a month" thing I am doing.  More on that in a later post.  I will probably do a review of the whole experience after the month has expired and can review all the meals I had made.

This is her Friday chapel uniform.

This is her everyday uniform.
On Monday the girls and I went and picked up Lorelai's uniforms for school and to pay her first installment of tuition.  Its official now that she will be attending school in 25 days.  I can not believe that my little girl will be attending school in least than a month.  I know that it would happen eventually but time sure flies by.  I remember the day she was born as just being yesterday and already she is going off to school.  Lorelai is super excited about the whole process though I don't know if she understands what it means to go to school.  We will see in a few weeks how she and I will adjust to the whole school thing.  I have also bought her a Dora backpack and  Minnie Mouse lunch box.  If you go to Cuckoo For Coupon Deals, there is a great deal on the Disney lunch boxes for those who have children who need lunch boxes.  Here are some pictures of her in her school uniform.

Eye is all better.

On Tuesday we went to the doctors for Abigail's eye. (She was born with an hemangioma on her right eye and was treated with medication for over a year.)   The doctor, like the past 4 visits, said that her eye looks great and that he wants to see her back in 3-4 months.  I am just praising the Lord that she is off the medication and that her eye is not getting worse.

Today, we went to this place called Bounce U with a friend of mine and her son and daughter.  The place is a kids place that has bouncy things set up for the kid to play in. The idea is an excellent idea however, for kids my age it was not so great an idea.  You would think that a place geared towards kids would have something for all ages but no they didn't.  Most of the items were for older kids.  They didn't even have a normal bounce house or castle that the kids could just bounce around in.  They had a couple of slides but they were really high up and Abigail went on it twice and then cried the rest of the time.  Lorelai eventually got the hang of the smaller slide.  I do have to say that parents really should teach their kids some manners.  Multiple times, I saw kids just trample Lorelai without stopping to see if she was ok.  Then my friend's daughter got ganged up on by some other kids who felt it would be fun to whale a girl with a bunch of basketballs.  Oh well, lesson learned: don't go to places like that with small children during the summer time.  I did get some pictures of the girls playing.

It's been a crazy busy week but I get to finish it on a high note hopefully.  Tomorrow, Larry and I will be spending the night at Club36 (its a hotel not a club).  I will also be going to dinner at this Thai restaurant close to the hotel.  I am definitely looking forward to a quiet evening with the hubby and no kids.  I feel like the last couple of weeks have been crazy busy with not time to just relax.  Praying that I come back Saturday fully rested and ready to tackle the girls for a couple more weeks before its just going to be Abigail and I at home.
